Exeter is a thriving modern city with a history stretching back to Roman times and beyond. It has a population of around 95,000 plus around 12,000 students at various campus's. At the heart of the city is St Peter's Cathedral which dates from the 14th century - it is surrounded by Cathedral Close which has several old pubs and Mol's coffee shop, which were frequented by Sir Walter Raleigh, so they say. The Quay area, along the River Exe, has been restored and is now full of pubs, restaurants and craft shops - with a few outdoor pursuits shops to provide a bit of adventure.
