Lulworth Cove Lulworth Cove is a spectacular natural feature on the Dorset coast which attracts thousands of visitors each year. It can be accessed from the A352 Dorchester to Wareham road via the village of Wool. Not far from the cove is Durdle Door which is a natural rock arch and one of the most photographed locations on the whole of the UK coast.
Lulworth is a small fishing village which sits in a cleft in the hillside above the picturesque cove. There is a beach at the cove which is covered in large pebbles and is not the most comfortable place to sit or to swim. Durdle Door is a natural arch carved in the limestone cliffs which juts out to sea. It is situated about a mile to the west of Lulworth but involves a fairly steep climb to the cliff top, there are also steep steps down to the beach but the view is worth the effort. There is a good sandy beach along from Durdle Door but there are strong currents along here so caution is needed if swimming.
The South West Coast Path runs along the coast here and provides access to many miles of spectacular scenery to the east and west. To the east lies the deserted village of Tyneham which is a bit spooky even in summer. Why was it deserted........now that's another story!
Nearby Lulworth castle and park - 17th century castle - check for opening times and events. Phone: 01929 400352 Worbarrow Bay is 1.5 miles to the east of the cove. Map of Lulworth Cove
